How do I register for the Mammoth Half Marathon or 5K?

When can I pick up my race packet?

What do I do if I can’t make it to Packet Pick-up?
A friend or family member can pick-up your bib with a copy of your ID and signed downloadable waiver (2016 waiver coming soon!).

What is the capacity of the number of runners that can participate?
The half marathon is limited to 1,500 runners the 5K race is limited to 250 runners.

What is The Mammoth Half Marathon?
The Mammoth Half Marathon is a 13.1-mile race that celebrates the beauty and uniqueness of Mammoth Lakes, while raising money to help the community. The event also includes a 5K (3.1-mile) race option. To learn more about the routes, visit The Course (for the half marathon) or the 5K Course.

What is the route for the half marathon and 5K?

What is The “San Diego – Mammoth Challenge”?
If a participant finishes both the San Diego Half Marathon and the Mammoth Half Marathon in the same calendar year, they will receive an additional extra-large commemorative “San Diego – Mammoth Challenge” medal!  Both events are hosted by the same non-profit organization and 100% of net proceeds benefit their respective local communities & causes.   To learn more, please visit:  Take the Challenge

What’s the best way to get updates on the race?
There are several ways to keep updated! Like us on Facebook and/or sign up to receive our newsletter at the bottom of our homepage, www.mammothhalfmarathon.com. All past and present registrants will automatically receive updates via email.

I am a community member.  What roads will be closed on race day?
A full listing of road closures and detours by neighborhoods affected by the race course can be found on the Community Info page.

What is Celebrate Mammoth Lakes Block Party?
The Celebrate Mammoth Lakes Block Party will take place concurrently and after the Mammoth Half Marathon on June 19, 2016, in downtown Mammoth Lakes. The event will feature music, a family fun zone, and options to eat, shop and play for the whole family!  To learn more about the post-event, visit Celebrate Mammoth Lakes.

Is there a time limit?
Yes, the half marathon has a time limit of 4 hours (18 minute/mile pace) and the 5K has a limit of 1 hour (19minute/mile pace). If you end up not on pace to finish within the time limit at the halfway point, you will have the option to be picked up or continue and finish as a pedestrian. You will receive a finisher’s medal regardless of your finish time.

Do you have special programs for elite runners?
If you are an elite runner, please email us at info@mammothhalfmarathon.com and we will follow up with you within 10 days.

How can I get a training plan for this race?
We have partnered with the Mammoth Track Club and we are offering FREE downloadable training programs for both beginner and advanced athletes.  To learn more, visit Training & Clubs.  Please also note the high altitude and running downhill training tips from the local experts.

Are there aid stations along the route?
Yes, 7 aid stations are strategically positioned all along the half marathon and 5K routes, approximately every 2 miles.

Am I allowed to bring my own water bottle?
Yes, and we encourage this eco-friendly option. Each aid station will include fresh water to refill your bottle.

Are strollers or wheelchairs allowed on the course?
Unauthorized bicycles, motorized vehicles, wheelchairs and strollers are not permitted on the race course due to safety concerns.

Are iPODs, iPhones and other personal listening devices permitted?
Yes, we are an mp3-player friendly race. However, for your safety, please adjust your volume so that you are aware of your surroundings at all times.

What information will I need to know in order to register?
In addition to your name, address, phone, and credit card, you will be asked to submit the following as part of the online registration process:

  • estimated finish time (see next FAQ if you need help estimating your finish time)
  • date of birth
  • shirt size
  • an emergency contact and phone number
  • city and state (this will be listed with your results)
  • electronic waiver
  • bib personalization (Optional, up to 8 characters, due by June 1)
  • SMS phone number (Optional, for last minute race updates)
  • additional options include VIP and the San Diego – Mammoth Challenge upgrades. For detailed descriptions these options, please visit our online Store.

How do I estimate my finish time?
For your convenience, use the table below to help estimate your finish time.  To ensure that you are grouped together in our start waves with other similarly-paced runners, base your estimate on your most recent training pace or race results.

How do I confirm my registration or find out my Bib #?
To look up your Bib # online, please visit our Bib # Lookup. You will need to enter your first and last name exactly as you entered it when you registered. For example, if you registered as John Doe Jr., be sure to include the “Jr.” after your last name.  The Bib # Lookup also serves as confirmation of your registration.

How do I find out what wave I’ve been assigned to?
Waves are assigned according to the estimated finish time that you indicated during registration. Your bib will have your wave assignment pre printed on it, and wave assignments are also indicated below. If you would like to change waves, please make sure to move to a higher number wave (slower estimated finish time).

5K Wave Assignments:
Wave 1: 30 minutes or less
Wave 2: 30 – 60 minutes

Half Marathon Wave Assignments
Wave 1: 1:50 hrs or less
Wave 2: 1:55 – 2:10 hrs
Wave 3: 2:15 – 2:30 hrs
Wave 4: 2:30 – 4:00 hrs

Will the race, expo or Celebrate Mammoth Lakes Block Party event be canceled in the event of rain?
No, the race, expo and post-event will be held whether it’s sunny, raining, snowing or anything in between. We anticipate beautiful weather, but it’s always a good idea to check the weather forecast a few days before the race so you can dress appropriately.

Does the race have gear check?
Yes, both the half marathon and 5K have an official gear check bag and the drop-off locations are adjacent to their respective start lines. For details, please refer to the final instructions, which will be available from our website the week prior to race day.

I am active duty in the military and just got orders to be shipped out. Can I transfer my registration to someone else?
Transfers are not allowed for any registration, however, active military who receive orders may choose to either defer their entry to the following year’s race or receive a refund. Email your request with a copy of your orders to info@mammothhalfmarathon.com no later than 10 days prior to event day.

I’ll be traveling in from out of town. Do you have any hotel blocks reserved?
Yes, we have partnered with several local hotels and we will have shuttles to the start and from the finish.  To secure room blocks at discounted rates, be sure to reserve your room early! To learn more, visit Travel & Hotels.

If I’m not running the half marathon or 5K, can I attend the Celebrate Mammoth Lakes Block Party?
Yes, friends and family of runners, plus local residents and tourists alike are encouraged to join the festivities downtown on Sunday, June 19, 2016! To learn more, visit Celebrate Mammoth Lakes Block Party.

Where can my friends watch me along the course?

Is there an option to register on-site? What is the fee?
On-site registration will be based on availability. If either the half marathon or 5K is not sold out, on-site registration fees will be announced closer to race day.

I am unable to participate in the half marathon. Can I transfer my bib or receive a refund?
Unfortunately, as stated in our policy here on the website and during registration, all race entries are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Where can I find the race results?
Race results are posted on our Results page as soon as they are available. To see 5K results, please select “5K” from the “Select A Race” dropdown menu on the left side of the page.
