Am I allowed to bring my own water bottle?

Yes, and we encourage this eco-friendly option. Each aid station will include fresh water to refill your bottle, as necessary.

Are iPODs, iPhones and other personal listening devices permitted?

Yes, we are an mp3-player friendly race. However, for your safety, please adjust your volume so that you are aware of your surroundings at all times.

What is the best way to get updates on the event?

There are several ways to keep updated: 1 – Like us on Facebook; 2 – Sign up to receive our newsletter; and/or 3 – follow us on Twitter. All past & present registrants will automatically receive updates via email from: info@mammothhalfmarathon.com.

Will the race or post event be canceled in the event of rain? What is the average temperature?

We anticipate beautiful weather this time of year in Mammoth Lakes, but it’s always a good idea to check the weather forecast a few days before the race so you can prepare & dress appropriately. The race and post-event will be held whether there is sun, rain or anything in between. In June, the average temperature is 75º F (24ºC).

What is the capacity of the number of runners that can participate?

The half marathon is limited to 1,500 runners the 5K race is limited to 250 runners. 

Does the race have gear check?

Yes, both the half marathon and 5K have an official gear check bag & the drop-off locations are adjacent to their respective start lines. For details, please refer to the final instructions which will be sent via email to all registered participants by June 13th.

Can I track runners along the course?

Yes! We have FREE live tracking available for all runners. Please visit our Spectator Guide to learn more and sign up.

I’ll be traveling in from out of town. Do you have any hotel blocks reserved?

What information will I need to know in order to register?

In addition to your name, address, phone, and credit card, you will be asked to submit the following as part of the online registration process:

  • estimated finish time (How do I estimate my finish time?)
  • date of birth
  • shirt size (half marathon size chart and 5K size chart)
  • an emergency contact and phone number
  • city and state (this will be listed with your results)
  • electronic waiver agreement
  • bib personalization (optional, up to 8 characters, due by June 1st)
  • SMS phone number (optional, for last minute race updates)
  • additional upgrades include: VIP and the San Diego–Mammoth Challenge (Half Marathon only).

How do I estimate my finish time?

For your convenience, use our downloadable pace table to help estimate your finish time when you register.  In order to group together similarly-paced runners, base your estimate on your most recent training run or race results.


What is the Mammoth Half Marathon & 5K?

The Mammoth Half Marathon is a 13.1-mile (21 km) race that celebrates the beauty and uniqueness of Mammoth, while raising money to help local communities & charities. A 5K (3.1-mile or 5 kilometer) race option will also be held on the same day.

What is the “San Diego – Mammoth Challenge”?

If you finish both the San Diego Half Marathon and the Mammoth Half Marathon in the same calendar year, you will receive an additional extra-large commemorative “San Diego – Mammoth Challenge” medal! I am registered for the half marathon. How can I transfer to the 5K?

To transfer from the half marathon to 5K, you can pick-up your half marathon packet then run the 5K with your bib and no further action is required. Keep in mind that shuttles to 5K Start depart from Petco Park’s Tailgate lot beginning by 6:00am, so please arrive early.

Who will receive medals and how will winners will receive awards?

Each Mammoth Half Marathon and 5K finisher will receive a medal after completing their race, regardless of finish time.

Half Marathon and 5K Awards include:

  • Top 3 Overall, Male & Female Winners
  • Top 3 Masters (age 40 & above) Overall, Male & Female Winners
  • Age Group Winners – Top 3 Male & Female Winners in the following age groups: 13 & under, 14-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+
  • Top Co-ed Team of 10 (Half Marathon only).  Average of top 8 finishers, with a minimum of 2 of each gender in the calculation.

*Please note that all age group awards will be based on net chip time and all overall awards will be based on gun time. After official results have been verified, a congratulatory text will be sent to all winners. Awards will not be mailed following the event, so please be sure to register with your SMS phone number so we can text you the details on how to pick up your award after your race.

I will not be able to pick up my race packet on Saturday in Mammoth. What are my options?

If you are unable to pick up your race packet at packet pickup, please email: info@mammothhalfmarathon.com to make arrangements to pick up your packet.  Alternatively, a friend or family member can pick up your race packet for you.  All they will need is a copy of the your valid photo ID and signed Waiver.

I am registered for the 5K. How can I transfer to the half marathon?

To transfer from the 5K to the half marathon, please visit our online Store, available while supplies last.

Do you have pacers or a pace team?

Yes!  If you have a  finish time goal you want to meet, our friends at the Mammoth Track Club and the Rock Runners will be leading pace groups for the following finish times:

1 hr 45 mins, 2 hrs, 2 hrs 15 mins, 2 hrs 30 mins
